Coimbatore International Airport

Coimbatore International Airport, located in Peelamedu is the primary airport serving the district of Coimbatore. Which is about 12 km from the Coimbatore Railway station.  This airport is second largest airport in the state for passenger traffic and cargo after Chennai International Airport. 

Coimbatore Airport was upgraded to International status on October 2012. 


Coimbatore International Airport is the second largest in the state for Terminal area, aircraft movement and run-way length.  The airport has one runway with a length of 9.760 ft (2.970 m) extended from 8.500 ft (2.600 m) to accommodate larger aircraft. In 2008, the airport was extended at a cost of ₹78 crores with 9 parking bays. New domestic and international divisions were added to the existing common terminal in 2010.

The airport has a parking area with a capacity of almost 300 cars. It has 24 check-in counters, 12 immigration counters, 4 custom counters and 6 security check booths. Two hangars at the airport providing shelter for the Coimbatore Flying Club aircraft and other for private carriers.

AAI has proposed the construction of a new domestic departure terminal on the eastern side of the campus. The terminal would be constructed in an area of 10,000 sq ft with a cost of approximately Rs 125 crore. The proposed further expansion of the airport includes the extension of the runway to 12,500 ft (3,800 m) to accommodate larger aircraft, such as the Boeing 787.

The airport is located about 10 km from the central bus station on Avinashi Road. The airport is 12 km (6.8 mi) from Coimbatore Junction and the nearby railway stations are Singanallur and Peelamedu. If you are planning for a stay in the city, consider checking in these hotels.
